On the 1st of October, the legal representatives of Odila Castillo Bonilla presented an official reply to the allegations spread by several media sources in Panama. These reports have been described as calculated assaults motivated by particular financial agendas, aimed at damaging Castillo’s professional standing and personal honor.
Carlos Carillo, an attorney from Castillo’s legal team, remarked: “The claims lack foundation and are designed to hinder the progress of a young legal professional and her associate, all for the benefit of undisclosed economic agendas.”
Odila Castillo’s Defense
The defense highlighted that this is not the first occurrence of media harassment faced by Castillo. In 2021, a Panamanian news organization inaccurately announced an alleged apprehension of the attorney regarding an inquiry, a statement that was later refuted, clarifying that it was unrelated to the current issues.
In the press conference, the defense contended that the recent accusations, along with those from 2021, are rooted in half-truths designed to weaken her professional endeavors.
Moreover, they argued that the details shared about Odila Castillo in the media breach confidentiality norms. They clarified that one segment of the inquiry originated from a family issue that had already been resolved, while another facet pertains to immigration activities and tax filings, along with additional information acquired through improper means.
Unlawful Monitoring of Odila Castillo
The defense further claimed that Castillo has been monitored via GPS tracking, which amounts to a type of illegal surveillance.
Carrillo wrapped up by declaring: “The core rights of our client have been infringed upon, as protected by our Constitution and legal framework. We will pursue all required legal measures to determine accountability for the harm suffered and any that may be imposed.”
